Ingredients

  • 14 ounces firm tofu pressed and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika adds smoky depth
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to spice preference
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil for marinade

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone mat
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula or tongs

Method

  1. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and press it with a heavy object for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. This makes it crispier when roasted.
  2. Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes, aiming for uniform size for even roasting and crispiness.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, and sesame oil to create a bold marinade.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss to coat each piece thoroughly with the marinade. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  5. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat for easy cleanup and even roasting.
  6. Arrange the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece for maximum crispy edges.
  7. Bake the tofu for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through. Look for golden edges and a fragrant, spicy aroma that signals crispiness and flavor.
  8. Once baked, remove from the oven and let the tofu rest for 5 minutes. This helps the exterior set and enhances the flavor as it cools slightly.
  9. Serve the crispy, spicy roasted tofu hot, garnished with chopped scallions or a squeeze of lime if desired. Enjoy the crunchy texture and fiery aroma in every bite!
